Mamas, their Babies and Sunflowers
I have dreamed, and drooled over the amazing images I have seen of people in Sunflower patches for YEARS. South of us, is very common for people to be able to get sunflower photos. Some farmers even grow patches specifically for photographers. So I thought well, why can’t I? I had full intentions of putting in a sunflower field at my parents house so I could use it to give people in Smithers those beautiful images. When life got busy, and we had a dud of a summer (Im not complaining, but lets be honest it was a dud) the sunflower patch was a fail. I thought I had to give up on my dream for this year. BUTTT.. one evening I was tagged in a beautiful picture taken by a local dairy farmer. The picture showcased rows and rows of beautiful sunflowers, and to top it off behind the sunflowers the sun was poking out ever so sweet from behind the trees. The perfect location. I literally didn’t sleep that night, so excited because after a chat with Hannah where she agreed to allow me to invade them to utilize the beauty that is in there back yard I was dreaming up things I wanted to shoot there. Mommy and Me was at the top of that list! As Moms, we often forget to get in front of the lens with our babes. We often snap shots of our kids with their Dads, or Aunts and Uncles, Grandparents etc. But we forget about ourselves.
I put the first invite out to my close friends, and Katie wasted no time jumping into that! If you follow Katie on Instagram you can see she takes beautiful images of her two boys, and often their Dad. From time to time her freckled face and red hair will show up but I knew these were exactly what she needed! Her son Jackson has never been a fan of the camera but this May, just before he turned three he looked at me while we were out for ice cream in Telkwa and said “When i’m three ill take pictures”. Well little buddy, you did just that. A little man of his word.
Kaila had messaged me when I posted about the green dress (forever known as the ugly dress) and EVERYONE hated it. I really mean everyone but Kaila said it was hideous! But I knew on the right person in the right place this dress would be perfect! So I invited Kaila out to do some Mommy and Me photos with her little man Bellamy. We ran, and danced and snuggled - tried for kisses.
We captured A LOT of really great moments but if i’m being honest there were a lot of not so great moments to. And guess what? Thats how almost every session goes! Thats how life goes. I ask kids to run and jump, have competitions and be a little silly. Sometimes that can lead to them being a little over excited and thats okay. Tantrums, their okay to. I have been around children my whole life, I feel very confident in dealing with kids, the shy ones and the more outgoing ones. Never let you fear of your children misbehaving stop you from having photos with them, they probably will but I don’t mind.
